Where to put your QuickBooks company file on your server?

In order to have all users on your QuickBooks server working on the same company file, the file will need to be put in a shared location that all or certain users can access. A good example of this is C:\Company Files\

In this artcile, we will create this folder and share it with all users on the system to make sure they have access to it. This will allow them to all work on the same company file in an organized way.

  1. Goto the file explorer and navigate to the C:\ drive
  2. Right click -> New -> Folder. Name the folder Company Files
  3. Right click on the new "Company Files" folder -> Properties
  4. Click the "Security" tab
  5. Under "Groups or user name:" highlight the "Users" group
  6. Click the "Edit" button
  7. Highlight the "Users" group
  8. Under "Permissions for Users" box towards the bottom, click the checkbox for "Full Control" under the "Allow" column
  9. Click Apply
  10. Click Ok
  11. Click Ok

Once this is done, you'll want to restore your company file to the above folder now that the permissions are setup.
