Schedule Windows Updates for Out of Hours

In this article, we will discuss reconfiguring Windows Updates to be rescheduled for out of hours time to assist with resource consumption.

It is always a good idea to keep you system as up to date as possible to avoid there being security issues with the Operating System. A problem associated with this is heavy resource updates being installed in the middle of the day, possibly causing performance issues with your server. Please follow below to change the Windows Updates to be performed during out of hours:

  1. Open the Windows Update configuration by opening the start menu and typing "Windows Updates"
  2. Scroll down the dialog that pops up to the section "Update Settings"
  3. Click "Change Active Hours"
  4. Select a time that you are normally actively using your server so Windows Updates will run outside of those hours
  5. Click "Save"

Moving forward, Windows Updates will be installed during out of hour times. Please note that you may get prompted to reboot your server to complete an update, but the actuall installation will be taken care of during out of hours time.
